Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship

Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents can bring their loved ones (Parents,grand-parents and children) to Canada if they meet certain eligibility requirement by two programs, sponsorship and super-visa program.

What is the difference between sponsorship program and Super-visa program?

Through sponsorship program your parents or grandparents will be a landed immigrant and ultimately a Citizen, however through Super-visa they are able to live in Canada for a period of 10 years, and every two years they must renew their visa.

I am a permanent residence and not a Canadian citizen, am I eligible to sponsor my parents?

Yes, you are, it does not matter whether you are a permanent residence or citizen you can sponsor your parents or grandparents provided you are eligible.

What are the eligibility requirements for me to sponsor my parents ofgrandparents?

You are eligible to sponsor your parents or grandparents if you are:

  • 1.18 years of age.
  • 2.Permanent residents or citizen of Canada.
  • 3.Must be financially in good standing and meet certain income requirement.
  • 4.Must support the person sponsored and their dependents financially for a period of 20 years.
The person sponsored must all meet certain eligibility requirements.
How do I go about sponsoring my Parents or Grandparents?

In the past you had to submit a complete application with a no. Of supporting documents and wait until your application was processed, application system operated on a first-come first-served-basis and thousands of applications were piled up without processing for many years.

Today, a limited no. of applications are accepted (10,000) each year and the system is based on a lottery system where the applicants indicate their interest to sponsor their parents or grandparents during a 30 day period which usually begins 1st of January and ends 1st of February by completing a form online.

At the end of 30 days through lottery Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) invites 10,000 individuals who have shown interest to sponsor by having to submit within 60 days a complete application with supporting documents.
